Singapore's symbolic Merlion statue started spouting water again on Wednesday noon.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said in a statement that the repair work on the wave form will continue until the end of March.
The Merlion statue was damaged by lightning during a heavy downpour on Feb.28. The incident caused a piece from the Merlion to fall onto the wave form at its base. Nobody was hurt. The statue had since been "caged" for assessment and repair work by the STB.
The Merlion was designed and built as a sculpture and did not include a lightning conductor. The STB said earlier this month that it is studying possible lightning protection measures for the Merlion Park to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Previously, there were no records of lightning damaging the Merlion since its inauguration on Sept.15, 1972. |
