The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of the Thai Interior Ministry reported Wednesday that drought has been affecting 25 provinces across the country.
The situation is worse than that during the same period of last year, the website by Thai-language newspaper Thai Rath reported.
There are totally 76 provinces in Thailand, while the ones, which have been hit by the drought, are such as Kamphaengphet, Lampang, Pitsanuloke, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Sakonnakorn, Prachuab Khirikhan, Trad, Sakaew, Chumporn and Trang.
Totally 157 districts, or 955 sub-districts, or 7,419 villages are being hit. Some 2.753 million people or 715,333 households have been suffering from the drought.
Initially, the government has spent some 196 million baht (5.40 million U.S. dollars) to solve the problem.
Relief schemes on the back of such spending included sending 230 cars of total 29.3 million liters of water to help the suffering people.
