Angola's National Assembly in Luanda on Friday approved the participation of Angola in The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)'s International Convention against Doping in Sports.
Addressing the assembly session, Angolan Foreign Minister Assuncao dos Anjos said the convention is integrated in the efforts of UNESCO to combat doping by promoting the practice of honesty in sports and the health of the performers.
He said the participation in the convention can help Angola prevent doping in the national sport activities and the fight against the phenomenon.
He added that becoming a member of the convention can also help Angola assure athletes' welfare and integrity as well as the preservation of moral and ethics values on sports and create a national program to fight doping in accordance with the law of the Angolan sports system.
According to the official, the holding of the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2010) in Angola in 2010 brings great responsibilities to the Angolan sports authorities, particularly in terms of doping control.
