Chinese Police Target Drink Driving during World Cup

Chinese police will be on the streets to crack down on drink driving during the Brazil World Cup.

The traffic control bureau alerted soccer fans to the risks of drink driving.

The bureau also warned against bad driving brought on by extreme moods because of the results of matches.

Former Judge to Get Reduced Sentence

Lu Jun , the former football referee was suggested by Beijing judicial authority to get one year off his five-year sentence for his good behaviour in jail.

Lu was one of China's top football judge and was sent to jail for football gambling and corruption.

It's the first times that Beijing judicial authority published the proposal for abatement case.

Expeditionary Soldiers' Remains Reburied in SW China

The remains of soldiers of the Chinese Expeditionary Force were reburied in a border town in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The soldiers died while fighting the Japanese army in World War II in Myanmar.

The remains of 635 expeditionary soldiers had been buried in Namhkam and Bhamo in Myanmar.

SPC Rejects Rape Case Death Penalties

China's supreme court annulled the death penalty for two people convicted of forcing into prostitution the daughter of a social campaigner.

The criminals who were found guilty of rape and forcing others into prostitution, will have their cases retried.

The annulment of the death sentences is a new twist in the ordeal suffered by Tang Hui, who was put in a labor camp for "seriously disturbing social order and exerting a negative impact on society".

Guangdong Busts Hundreds of Prostitution Gangs

Police in South China's Guangdong Province have captured 3,033 suspects and busted 214 gangs in a crackdown on prostitution.
 
The initiative was launched a Television expos¨¦ of the sex services in Dongguan which is notorious for its illegal sex trade.

Police said the crackdown had "effectively curbed" prostitution in Guangdong and promised to carry on the campaign till the end of this year.

Lanzhou Tap Water Pollution Cause Identified

Local authorities announced outdated water ducts are blamed for contamination of tap water that affected 2.4 million people in the northwestern Chinese city of Lanzhou.

Investigators said that cracks were found on two ducts at a water plant.

Local authorities said the ducts had been in use beyond their design life.

New Air Pollution Campaign

The municipal government said Beijing launched a five-month campaign to fight against air pollution and smog.

The campaign will focus on emissions from industrial sectors.

The government will also step up efforts to supervise open-air barbecues and restaurants.

It also promotes the use of clean energy in the catering business.
