Car Plate Auctioned for Record High 1.72 Million Yuan in Shenzhen

A car license plate auction is being held in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.

With averaging sales of 130 thousand yuan for each car plate, 100 car plates were auctioned off Sunday, garnering a total of 13.564 million yuan of bidding.

Among them, a car plate bearing the number 8888R was sold for a record high of 1.72 million yuan while a car plate bearing the number B9999S was sold for 1.68 million yuan.

The auction is scheduled to carry on until Jan. 29 and 50 car plate numbers will be released every day in the morning and afternoon.

According to an introduction from a relevant police officer, all proceeds from the auction will go towards public financing of road construction work, in addition to a social assistance fund dedicated to traffic accidents.
