Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has started his visit to Romania.

During his three-day visit, the Premier will attend a summit with leaders from Central and Eastern European countries in Bucharest.

The two sides will also assess the implementation of the cooperation proposals made in the previous summit held in Warsaw last year.

After Romania, the Chinese premier will travel on to Uzbekistan to attend the 12th prime ministers' meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.

As economic ties between China and CEE countries growing stronger, more and more Chinese enterprises have begun investing in CEE countries and acquisition among companies has also become common.

CRI's Wu Yanping has more.

Trade between China and Central Eastern European countries has increased from 8.5 billion US dollars in 2003 to 52 billion this year.

Kong Tianping is director of the research center on Central Eastern European countries of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

He says frequent exchanges among China and Central Eastern European countries are mutually beneficial.

"Increasing export to China and attracting more Chinese investors is beneficial to Central Eastern European countries. Chinese investment in those countries help create job opportunities and boost the economy. As emerging economies, Central Eastern European countries are also significant for China to develop a globalized market."

Besides economic benefits, Chinese enterprises also value their social responsibilities while investing in Central and Eastern European countries.

Lu Yong is head of the northeastern European branch of Huawei, a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company.

"Huawei not only tries to create better products for customers, but also fulfils its social responsibilities. We offer job opportunities for local college students and training programs regarding ICT technologies. In Poland, we are cooperating with charity funds to raise money for orphans and people with disabilities. We also provide scholarships for college students in Hungary, Romania and other countries."

Slawomir Majman, Chairman of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, hopes central and eastern European countries will deepen cooperation with China.

"Poland highly expects Chinese investment. We've founded the research center for Poland and China Economic Cooperation. Central and Eastern European countries, like Poland and Romania, are seeking cooperation with China. I hope that the region can play an important role in China's policy decision and economic development."

Meanwhile Kong Tianping also cautions that Chinese enterprises should familiarize themselves with the local business culture and laws while investing in the region to avoid risks.
