Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the capital of Turkmenitan, Ashgabad, for a two-day visit to the Central Asian country.

The President is to hold talks with his Turkmen counterpart, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

China is the largest trading partner of Turkmenistan with bilateral trade reaching 10.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2012.

And the two countries jointly run the world's largest natural gas pipeline which is almost 8,000 km long.

Turkmenistan is the first stop in Xi Jinping's four-nation tour of Central Asia which will also take in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

He is also due to attend the G20 summit in St. Petersburg in Russia as well as a state-leader meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.

To have a closer look at the relationship between China and the four central Asian nations as well as China's role in the G20 and the SCO, CRI's Zheng Chenguang earlier spoke to Ekaterina Koldunova, Vice-Dean of the School of Political Affairs at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in Russia.
