Xue Manzi, the venture capitalist who championed microblogging as a tool for doing good works in the community, has been arrested for allegedly purchasing the services of a prostitute in Beijing, according to a post published on the microblogging account of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
Xue Manzi, 60, and a 22-year-old alleged prostitute both admitted their illegal act.
With over 12-million fans on Sina Weibo, Xue Manzi earned his internet fame when he used the Chinese microblogging website, Weibo, as a tool to combat kidnapping.
Prostitution is illegal in China and violators could be detained for up 15 days or fined up to 5000 yuan.
