Ugandan President Meets with Senior Chinese Official

President of Uganda and Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Yoweri Museveni met with Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday in the Ugandan capital Kampala.

President Museveni conveyed thanks to China for its support to Uganda's national struggle for liberation.

He said Uganda and China keep a sound relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. China has made great contributions to Uganda's development.

Uganda will stick to the one China policy and strive to strengthen the practical cooperation to benefit the people of the two countries.

The visiting Chinese official, who is also a secretary of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat and head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said Sino-Ugandan relations developed smoothly in recent years and that the two sides have expanded cooperation in politics, economy and other fields.

Li said the Chinese Communist Party and the Uganda National Resistance Movement maintain frequent high-level exchanges and deepen exchanges of experience in governance which keeps strengthening the bilateral relations. He said China appreciates Uganda's support for China on issues concerning its core interests.

Li also met with Ugandan Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi on the same day in Kampala and reached consensus on furthering cooperation and relations between the CPC and the NRM.
