China's Peaceful Development Exemplary for World: U.S. Writer

China's peaceful development can serve as a great example for the rest of the world, a U.S. writer said in a recent interview with Xinhua.

"China actually is a country with enormous desire to improve the life of the people," said Andre Vltchek, who is also a filmmaker and journalist.

Recalling his personal experience in China, he said, "China built everything from metro system to parks to kindergartens. The cities and the country in general are built for the people."

China's success story has special inspirations to a world that is going to have a population of 7 billion, Vltchek said, noting that China has rich experience in improving the life of a large population.

The Asian giant's practices, especially those in securing food and water for its people, are worth learning as some parts of the world are faced with food scarcity and lack of access to clean water, Vltchek said.

China, he said, is now open enough to take many ideas from all over the world and from its own history and culture.

He also said that he would not like to see China following the examples of the Soviet Union and some Latin American countries that have suffered from the pressure of the West.

"I hope China is going to stick to the socialist concept. That's one of the main reasons I support China," he said.

With an eye on the current European and U.S. debt woes, Vltchek said that he expects China to use its status as a large creditor of Europe and the United States to improve the world economic system.

"I hope personally it is going to use some of its leverage for at least modifying the world's policy. I just hope it is not going to bail out the West without any conditions," he added.
