Couple Bid for Shaking off Child Custody

A couple in Beijing decided to bid against the custody of their child. Unlike other families, neither the husband nor the wife is willing to raise the kid, so the winner with a higher bid can get rid of that obligation, the Beijing Times reports.

The couple, both surnamed Zhang, are planning a divorce in the rural Shunyi District, but they cannot come to an agreement on their 4-year-old son. During court mediation, they agreed to solve the matter through an auction.

The wife said she married her husband in November 2000 and both were divorced before. However, the man allegedly showed indifference to his family and was often drinking. Their relationship got even worse, since she suffered from domestic violence.

The woman said she could not put up with her husband anymore and appealed to the court for a divorce. She hopes her husband could take care of the little boy as she has no steady job or habitation and no ability to nurture the child.

The husband agreed to the divorce, but argued that taking care of the child would bring inconveniences to his job. He said it will be good for the 4-year-old to live with his mother and is willing to offer 300 yuan each month as alimony.

The auction will be held at the Beijing Shunyi District People's Court.
