Macao Red Cross announced on Thursday that it decided to offer 200,000 RMB (about 30,000 U.S. dollars as emergent quake-relief fund to the disaster area in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
At least 24 people were killed and 207 others injured in a 5.8- magnitude earthquake that jolted Yingjiang County in Yunnan Province around noon on Thursday.
Wong Yue Kai, president of the central council of the Macao Red Cross, told Xinhua via telephone that the relief fund will be used to buy food for quake victims.
Wong, who is attending the Fourth Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing, instructed Macao Red Cross to closely follow the situation and take measures to offer help.
Meanwhile, Macao Red Cross appealed to local communities to help their compatriots in the disaster zone through various means. |
