The last three members of a trapped earthquake research expedition team left the Kunlun Mountains, and arrived at Minfeng County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday, the Xinhuanet reports.
The rescue team, composed of local firemen, were able to help the three expeditionists repair their broken vehicle, and drive 200 kilometers to Minfeng County. They are now in good physical condition after undergoing a medical examination.
So far, all thirty-one trapped earthquake research expeditionists (including a reporter) have left the Kunlun Mountains safely, which sit 5,500 meters above sea level.
Last Friday, the expedition team was trapped in the Kunlun Mountains due to damages sustained on their supply vehicle. The local government and army sent helicopters and a rescue team first to rescue three people who were suffering from altitude sickness on Sunday. Afterwards, twenty-five more members were pulled out from the mountain area on Tuesday. |
