A man in southwest China's Sichuan Province carried 700 one-yuan coins to several banks to convert into larger bills in order to test the service of the bank staff, the Sichuan-based Western China City Daily reported Tuesday.
Last month, the man went to the branch network of four banks to ask bank staff to convert the coins into paper notes. At two of the four banks, the process took only a few minutes, and the bank employees' attitude was satisfactory. At another bank, it took twice the time and the bank employee's attitude was poor. At the last one, the bank employee there was not even familiar with the procedure.
The man said he just did it for fun. He filmed the whole process and uploaded the video on the internet. Some netizens in favor of his work say this test can urge the banks to improve their service and suggest that more banks be tested. Others think the man was asking for trouble and wasting the time of both the bank staff and other customers.
"It's common that different banks have different service standards and this case couldn't reflect the overall level of bank services," an employee from a bank that has been involved in the practice said. |
