Attack on Anti-fraud Activist Sparks Online Uproar
The newly-hired bodyguard of Fang Zhouzi, a popular science writer known for his efforts in exposing academic frauds in China, will begin working next week, Fang's lawyer said on Saturday.
Peng Jian, Fang's lawyer, told Beijing News that after Fang was attacked by two men and slightly injured near his Beijing residence last Sunday, he felt that Fang urgently needed to hire long-term bodyguard.
Peng revealed that Fang, who is recovering from the injury, is cooperating with the police investigation of the incident.
The Beijing News said that on Thursday, Peng launched an anti-fraud fund to safeguard the life security of anti-fraud activists.
The lawyer told the newspaper that as of Friday afternoon, the fund has collected 30,000 Yuan (about 4,410 US dollars). |
