A natural gas pipeline broke during an excavation, leaking natural gas and leading to a huge explosion and a fire as high as a six-storey building at a construction site in central China's Wuhan on March 15, the Wuhan Evening News reported.
The huge fire was due to the fact that the 400-millimeter-wide broken pipe was the main channel in the pipe network, and pressure inside the pipe was intense, an official from Wuhan Natural Gas Company explained.
Rescuers cut off two valves nearest to the broken section and rushed in to make repairs once all the gas in the pipe had burned out.
Half an hour later, the fire was put out and nearby traffic went back to normal.
No casualties were reported in the accident.
