| With a view to accelerating China's urbanization, an advisor to the Chinese government has suggested the country should split up its administrative districts and create new provinces according to one government advisor at the ongoing meetings of the country's top legislators, Beijing News reports.
Huang Shuyuan, a CPPCC member from the People's Publishing House, proposed expanding the total number of Chinese provinces and autonomous regions to more than 50 by subdividing existing ones.
Huang said some of the existing local government officials can take up the posts in the new administrations. This will tackle the problem of local governments being burdened with excessively large numbers of officials.
In addition, the advisor said the move will help ease the pressure caused by excessive labor forces in rural areas that can seek employment in the construction of new provincial capitals. |
