With thick cotton clothes, leggings and helmets, some 100,000 migrant workers in Pearl River Delta of south China's Guangdong province are on their way home by motorcycle for Chinese New Year.
According to a report of the Nanfang Daily, the migrant workers from cities Foshan, Dongguan and Guangzhou are traveling in flocks or alone along No.321 National Road to their adjacent hometowns including Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guizhou province, Hunan province or Sichuan province.
To ensure the migrant workers' safe trip, over 20,000 traffic police of Guangdong province are sent to guide them on their way home and resting places are established on the route.
A traffic police official in Zhaoqing city where the most motorcycles pass told the Nanfang Daily about 7000 motorcycles run through Zhaoing every day in the spring festival and he estimated that the total would reach 100,000.
The report also noted that short trip, expensive train or bus ticket and the difficulty in buying a ticket are the main reasons why the migrant workers go home by motorcycle. |
