From July 1st, Beijing's newborn babies will be required to have names registered in Chinese characters only on their birth certificates, and Beijing babies not born in hospitals will be required to provide proof of DNA paternity test when applying for the certificate, according to a notice released by the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau on Monday.
The Beijing Daily said on Tuesday that the notice requires that as a legal medical certificate of people born in China, the previously used handwritten birth certificates will be replaced with computer-written ones, and only names written in Chinese characters will be permitted on the birth certificates of a newborn baby.
The report also said that most birth certificates are provided by hospitals delivering babies. For some babies born at home or in other public places, applicants will have to go to the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital with proof of a DNA paternity test from July 1st. |
