Major Events in Shanghai's Road to the World Expo
March 17, 2000: The General Office of the State Council issued a circular on establishing the 2010 World Expo Shanghai China Bidding Committee (WESCBC).
May 15, 2000: The WESCBC held a briefing in Beijing.
June 27, 2000: The Shanghai municipal government decided to set up a lead group on bidding affairs.
January 16, 2000: The bidding emblem for the 2010 World Expo was revealed.
May 2, 2001: China's ambassador to France tendered, on behalf of the Chinese government, the bidding document for the 2010 World Expo to the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE).
November 30, 2001: The BIE held its 130th General Assembly in which Xu Kuangdi, then Shanghai Mayor, made a bid presentation.
January 30, 2002: Wu Jianmin, then China's Ambassador to France, tendered a report on the Chinese government's bid to host the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai to Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, BIE's Secretary General, with letters of support from Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji.
March 2002: The BIE began reviewing host city applications.
July 2002: The BIE held its 131st General Assembly.
December 2002: A vote was held during the BIE's 132nd General Assembly in which Shanghai won the bid to host the 2010 World Expo.
