China's leading newspaper the People's Daily is to run a commentary Sunday hailing the "one country, two systems" principle that has witnessed a stronger Macao as it marks the 10th anniversary of return to China.

The commentary says under the "one country, two systems" principle that accords the former Portuguese enclave a high degree of autonomy in administrative, legislative and independent judicial powers, Macao has become more robust and prosperous over the past ten years.

It says the city's economy has expanded and its international influence is larger.

Ties between Macao and the mainland has also become closer over the past decade as the Chinese central government is highly concerned over Macao's development and firmly supports Macao in its economic development and improvement of people's livelihoods, it says.

The commentary also highlights the necessity to stick to the "one country, two systems" principle in order to maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of Macao, as the principle has proved to be a success.
