These foreign guests included Morihiko Hiramatsu (front L3), a Japanese who helped numerous Chinese farmers out of poverty by sponsoring the One Product for One Village movement, and Huang Wanbi (front R1), wife of Israel Epstein, a Poland-born Chinese citizen who made China known to the world through his numerous books and articles; younger sisters (front L2 and R2) of Dwarkanath S. Kotnis, an Indian doctor who sacrificed his life during China's war of resistance against Japanese aggression; Phillipa Reynolds (front L1), niece of Rewi Alley, a social activist and educator from New Zealand who contributed to China's national liberation; Thomas Rabe (2nd row L2) and Elisabetta Rabeand  (3rd row L4), grandson and grand-daughter-in-law of John Rabe, a German who rescued 250,000 Chinese during the Nanjing Massacre committed by the Japanese invaders.
