Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Sunday with a trio of the European Union (EU) foreign ministers ahead of the 12th China-EU Summit.

The trio included Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Angel Lossada Torres-Quebedo.

Yang spoke highly of the sound growth momentum of China-EU relations.

The European integration is progressing rapidly as the Lisbon Treaty will soon take effect, and China will take this opportunity to further promote the development of its comprehensive strategic partnership with the EU, Yang said.

The European side that the EU highly values its relations with China and the EU would like to strengthen political dialogue and trade and economic cooperation with China, and maintain communication and coordination on such major issues as global economic crisis, climate change, energy security and anti-nuclear proliferation, they said.

The 12th China-EU Summit is to be held Monday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province. The summit is the highest level political consultation mechanism between the two sides.
