Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin has stressed the importance of strengthening national unity to promote common prosperity for all ethnic groups.
Jia made the remarks in a written instruction to a symposium attended Saturday by representatives of various ethnic groups to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct. 1.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), urged participants to stick to the main theme of promoting national unity and achieving the common progress for all ethnic groups."
In his instruction, Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, urged participants to continue implementing and improving the system of regional autonomy of ethnic minorities to "achieve harmonious ethnic relations featuring equality, unity and mutual assistance".
When addressing the symposium, Vice Premier Hui Liangyu called on participants to be models in safeguarding national reunification, ethnic unity, and social stability. |
