Ding Hui has been listed on the latest national men's volleyball roster to be the first player with an African face on a national sports team in China's history.
China's volleyball watchdog announced its new 18-man squad on Tuesday.
Ding, 19, comes from a Chinese-South African family. He has been living with his mother in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, ever since his birth and chose to be a Chinese.
Ding Hui started his volleyball career at the age of 10 and played with the national youth team at the U-19 world championships in 2007, where they claimed second place, the best ever result for China at that event.
He is now playing for the Zhejiang Liqun team in the country's top men's volleyball league.
