Airlines confirmed on Tuesday that cracks have been discovered in the wing brackets of six Airbus A380 aircraft following mandatory checks.
The airline said that checks have been carried out on the six aircraft since Jan. 20. The inspections are mandated by the European Aviation Safety Agency following discovery of cracks in the structural components of some A380 aircraft.
"There were findings during each inspection," Singapore Airlines said in a statement.
Singapore Airlines has 12 Airbus A380 planes in its fleet.
While the six A380 planes are sent out for repairs, scheduled flights usually operated by the affected A380 planes are temporarily operated by Boeing 777-300ER jets, local broadcaster Channel NewsAsia reported.
Four of the planes have been returned to operation after repairs, and repairs for the other two planes are expected to be completed "in the coming days."
The costs of inspections and repairs are covered by Airbus, Singapore Airlines said. |
