Hu Mei
|
Only months after finishing her 2009 epic film "Confucius", directress Hu Mei is ready to take on another big project - a new film of Chinese literature classic "A Dream of Red Mansions".
The project has been in preparation since 2007 and the shooting is set to open in March next year.
Hu Mei is credited for her previous hit historical TV dramas such as 'Emperor Wu of Han' and 'Emperor Yongzheng'. She stepped down as the appointed director for a 2007 TV remake of the Red Mansion saga novel, which sparked a media spree back then.
The 18th century novel has been adapted into films for five times over the last six decades. |
Mulan Opens Big in First Week

'Mulan' has grossed 32 million yuan since its release last Friday, edging out Hollywood flicks "2012", "District 9", "Twilight" and "G-Force" to top last weekend's Chinese mainland box office rating.
The film's big opening is a confidence boost to a string of upcoming homemade movies during the year-end cinematic season, a time for commercial films to take in huge profits.
