Actor turned director Jiang Wen's upcoming film Let the Bullets Fly is still in production, but Jiang and his cast discussed the film recently with reporters in Beijing. They teased fans by revealing a little bit -- but not much -- about the story line.
TV presenter Cui Yongyuan provided a touch of humor as he hosted the news conference. Veteran stars Chow Yun-fat and Ge You are teamed up with young stars Chen Kun, Yao Lu, Liao Fan and Zhang Mo, creating a strong cast for the film.
But they all remained tight lipped about the plot. Cui joked the film ranges between a suspense thriller and an educational flick. Cui did manage to coax Ge You into revealing some of the plot.
Actor Ge You said, "I play a cheat, and I am abducted by the bandit played by Jiang Wen. Then we head to a town where we encounter Chow's character."
Actor Chow Yun-fat said, "I'm the gang leader in the town. They buy cannon from me. Then a lot of things take place among us, we fight with wit, which makes it funny."
Jiang keep his silence about the plot, despite being bombarded with questions from Cui. But questioned about whether Chow Yun-Fat's role has some funny bits and if Ge You will make a breakthrough in some fight scenes, the two actors' answers are vague.
"I see the part with no comedy. Jiang asked me to play a serious gangster. He says there is no comedy in it." Zhou said.
Ge You said, "There's no such action scenes for me. I might be running in the the hills, that shouldn't be called action."
Jiang Wen, Chow Yun-Fat and Ge You have never collaborated before. The audience will naturally expect some chemistry to be generated among them. Chow says although he has been featured in mainland films for years, this film is still a unique and exciting experience.
Han Sanping, the director of China Film Group says Let the Bullets Fly is a test of Jiang's ability to a commercial film. But Jiang is confident about the script which he has revised many times. As for the box office or awards, Jiang joked that Chow Yun-Fat and Ge You will look after these. The film will be released late next year.
