There was little surprise when the popular TV drama "Soldiers and Their Commander" led the People's Choices Awards on Thursday at the Shanghai Television Festival.
The war epic serial, featuring the same cast of the 2007 hit "Soldiers Sortie", continued the popularity of its predecessor by claiming the title of "Drama with the Most Public Attention".
Duan Yihong, who plays the commander, was voted as the "Most Popular Actor", while director Kang Honglei won "Most Capable Director".
The male-dominated "Commander" however was weak in the popular actress category, with the award instead going to Yan Ni of "Bei Feng Na Ge Chui" ("The North Wind").
"Lurk", another small-screen dark horse of this year, has the "Most Attractive Story".
"Lurk" and "Commander" are leading the nominations for the Magnolia Awards, the Shanghai Television Festival's top honors. Winners will be selected by a panel of directors and producers, and will be announced at the closing ceremony on Friday night.
