Longmen Grottoes

City Introduction

Located in the west of Henan Province in central China, Luoyang occupies quite an important geographic location. It is in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and is encircled by mountains and plains. Luoyang is one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, and is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.

Culture and History

Luoyang was the capital of thirteen dynasties in Chinese history. It was the birthplace of three of the four great inventions of ancient China - the compass, papermaking and printing. Luoyang is also home to several famous world heritage sites including the Longmen Grottoes, the White Horse Temple and the Shaolin Temple.
