Erlitou site, one of the major cultural projects discussed for the 13th five-year plan period from 2016 to 2020 is set to be completed in July 2018. This site represents the ruins of what was once the capital city of the Xia dynasty; the earliest dynasty in China that existed almost 3800 years ago. It was recognized as one of the most remarkable ancient cultural relics in China for its significance in the study of ancient Chinese civilization.

The project was launched in September 2017, and will cover an area of about 16 hectares, with a total construction area of 31781 square meters. The area will include a public area, service area, administrative area and Research Center and will be constructed at a total cost of 630 million yuan.

At present, preparations and site excavation have already been done. A trial operation for the museum will start at the end of July 2018, after the completion of the main structure. The official opening is set for October 1 2018.

Yang Bingxu, the director of publicity department for Luoyang city says staff recruitment and training, construction of supporting facilities and visitor center will all be undertaken at the same time to ensure the museum starts its operations as scheduled.
