Retro buses to operate in Luoyang

2017-12-08 17:05:39     CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Chen Ziqi

Fifty retro styled tram-like buses have arrived at the Luoyang Bus group parking lot. The vehicles nicknamed "Dangdang Che" will operate on bus lanes leading to the city's major scenic spots.

Known as "Dangdang Che" in Chinese, they first made their debut on the streets of Beijing. Drivers of these unique buses often step on a bell that produce a unique sound to warn pedestrians to leave the tracks. Apparently the bells produce sounds that can only be described as "Dangdang" hence the name "Dangdang Che". The buses and their "dangdang" sounds bring back some good old memories from the old times and have become a symbol for retro city tours.

The design for these tram-like vehicles for Luoyang city is an exact copy of that for Shanghai buses that were used in the last century. They are covered in retro green and decorated with retro nails. According to Chen Yiguang, the director of technology department at the Luoyang Bus group, the vehicles are modern electric buses with zero gas emissions and pollution despite their old-fashioned appearance. They are also equipped with air conditioning and LED lighting systems.

At the completion of subsequent charging facilities, they in the future will be mainly operating along bus lanes leading to the White Horse Temple, Longmen Grottoes and other tourist attraction sites in Luoyang.
