The Opening Ceremony
The 'Experiencing China' event series opened in Berlin at local time noon of May 17 during the Berlin Asian-Pacific Week. Also commenced was a Chinese Cuisine Festival, at which chefs from Chengdu, a historic city in southwest China, prepared local snacks and made a tasty banquet with German chefs.
The activities were hosted by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) of the People¡¯s Republic of China and the China¡¯s embassy to Germany. More than 200 guests were present, including Shi Mingde, China¡¯s ambassador to German, Zhang Yanbin, director of the SCIO, and Markus Ederer, German¡¯s Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry.
Shi said in his opening speech that China put emphasis on the Berlin Asian-Pacific Week, which was an important platform for economic and cultural exchange between China and Germany. He also said that as a typical part of Oriental and Western cultures, China and Germany should strengthen their communication and learn from each other.
The ¡®Experiencing China¡¯ event series would last until May 29 and would comprise cultural exchange activities such as shows, exhibitions, movies and cuisines from Beijing, Sichuan, Hunan, and Shaanxi in China, all of which displayed distinctive ethnic features.
In the Berlin Asian-Pacific Week ranging from May 18 to 24,the Beijing Municipal Government would take part in the keynote forum on ¡®Intelligent City¡¯ and exchanged opinions with German representatives and those from other Asian-Pacific cities.
