The eastern province of Anhui is famous for two 'Huang's: the tangible heritage Huang-shan Mountain and the intangible legacy Huang-mei opera. The fresh and natural style of Huangmei Opera has made it the pop and country music in China's traditional opera.

Huangmei Opera was formed in the 18th century, when local Chinese operas were flourishing. Originally it was a combination of local folk songs, dances and some widely spread ancient operas.

As one of the five national operas in China, Huangmei Opera has formed and developed in Anqing. Once you walk into Anqing, the hometown of this local opera, you will soon learn that the passion behind this opera continues to drive locals to advance and promote the art form nationally.

Zaifen Huangmei Opera Art Theater is the home to one of the most renowned Huangmei Opera troupes, led by its president, Ms. Han Zaifen. Founded in 2005, it is the first theater in China to be named after an artist since the policy of reform and opening-up was carried out. The theater has developed a good reputation in both China and overseas. Performances abroad have been organized multiple times and have been embraced by many places. In 2010, Han Zaifen and her troupe visited America where her art works were permanently collected and stored in the U.S. Library of Congress.
