Dunhuang in northwestern China's province of Gansu may be surrounded by desert landscapes, but it is in fact strategically located at an oasis which is also the crossroads between the Southern Silk Road and the main road leading to Lhasa.

Today, tourists flock to Dunhuang to explore the rich local culture and Mingsha Shan Mountain. But after dusk the Dunhuang night market has become the city's key attraction. Local specialty foods, local crafts and entertainment keep the market bustling into the wee hours. Many ethnic minority groups sell their arts and wares at the market.Crowds come to enjoy roast meats, drink beer, buy gifts, or just soak up the environment.
