Gansu Province's City of Liqian is known for its local residents whose physical characteristics differ from the China's Han majority. In the 1940s one professor of Chinese history postulated that the reason for this phenomenon could be that the Liqian residents have Roman ancestry dating back to 36 BC. Up to now the DNA tests have only been inconclusive. But nonetheless the town of Liqian has been steamrolling forwards to develop itself into a Roman-Chinese wonderland for tourists.
