CRI Online, the multilanguage website of China Radio International, has launched a cyber-selection event entitled "2010 Chinese Cities Ranking -- Top Chinese Tourist Cities".

1. A unique and charming cityscape

Foreign visitors are drawn to China by the mystery of Chinese civilization, the ancient culture with its history of 5,000 years, and the breath-taking miracles of nature. Distinct geographic features, fascinating historical backdrops and eye-catching traditions give each city a unique character. Be it a natural landscape or a man-made sight, the more unique it is, the more intoxicating it is; and the more Chinese elements it has, the more attractive it is.

2. A safe and harmonious living environment

"Better city, Better Life". The environment of a city is equivalent to the outer clothing a person might wear, and it is an important factor in determining a city¡¯s success in attracting investors and tourists. Safety and stability represent the vitality and sustainability of a city. Public amenities and social awareness regarding environmental issues both contribute to the living standard of city residents, as well as shaping their attitudes toward life in general.

3. Friendly and open citizens

Citizens are like the business card of a city. The unique features of a city and its inherited culture both contribute to diversified city images. A city character marked by friendliness and openness is also a manifestation of oriental civilization.

4. Well-established tourist facilities

Tourist cities serve as windows through which the world can directly and clearly view China.
A clear city directory, a scientific urban management system and a well-developed information network are all indicators of a city¡¯s internationalization level.

5. Strong development potential

Those cities seeking selection should have a comparatively strong potential for development, with balanced development in areas such as environmental protection, use of resources, and infrastructure construction. Urban life and commercial environments in chosen cities are expected to be appealing and exert a certain influence.
