The Director-General of National Sports Commission (NSC) Amos Adamu Wednesday rated the performance of the Team Nigeria Paralympics athletes to the just concluded Beijing 2008 Games above average.
According to the Tribune newspaper, Adamu said the Nigerian athletes to the Paralympics Games had really made the country proud.
He said the athletes had shown that they could perform wonder with adequate and well articulated training programs, adding that the Nigerian federal government would do more to encourage the athletes so that they could do more at the next Paralympics Games in London in 2012.
Meanwhile, Team Nigeria athletes to the 19th Paralympic Games in Beijing, China are expected to depart the Chinese capital Friday and arrive Nigeria on Saturday.
Patrick Ekeji, Nigeria's Chef de Mission and Director of Sports at the National Sports Commission (NSC), said the athletes and their officials would return home aboard Emirates and Qatar Airlines and arrive the country on Saturday.
He said the NSC would make recommendation to the Presidency for the athletes to be honored and hosted to a reception to show appreciation and for the special sports athletes to have a sense of belonging
Nigeria ended these Games with nine medals made up of 4 golds, 4 silvers and one bronze.
