Israeli Delegation Commends Beijing Olympic Games
    2008-09-01 17:08:38     Xinhua
Despite some disappointment about the performance of the Israeli delegation at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games, the athletes and officials still highly commended the just-ended Beijing Olympic Games.

"I think this is the best Olympic Games I have ever participated, and other members of the delegation have the same feeling." Michal Shahaf, the spokesperson for the Olympic Committee of Israel(OCI) told Xinhua Monday in a telephone interview.

"I am still living in the Beijing time. It is a great stay." Shahaf said, who has just returned to Israel from Beijing on Wednesday. The delegation received a rapturous reception in the Ben-Gurion airport arrivals hall, especially the only medal winner Shahar Zubari.

"What impressed me most is the perfect organization work China has done. Everything is well organized and the system runs so good. " Shahaf said.

She also highly praised the volunteers. "They helped us a lot. Actually every time when we have problems with such as directions and translations, there are always volunteers to help us warmly and on time."

Israel sent 43 Israeli athletes to compete in Beijing, the largest Israeli delegation in Olympic history, and came back with one bronze medal in sailboard.

"Of course we are somewhat disappointed, because we had been expecting better results." Shahaf said.

However, besides disappointment from failures of medal hopefuls, athletes think Beijing Olympic Games left them a good memory.

Irina Risenzon, a female athlete in the rhythmic individual all- around event in Gymnastics, has enjoyed her stay in China.

"The Olympic village is big and clean, and extremely beautiful. I can find all kinds of food in the village' cafeteria." Irina Risenzon, one of the Israeli athletes, said that volunteers' smiles and concentration on work will stay in her memory.

"But it is a pity I have spent most time in the village. China is so big and far more prosperous than I expected, and I hope I can have a chance to travel in Beijing and other places in China later." Irina Risenzon said.
