China's Top Legislator Wu Bangguo Meets Greek Foreign Minister
Greece and China promised on Thursday to further promote their cooperation in various fields in a bid to push their relations to a new high level. During his meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis,visiting Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo says it is a common sense that China and Greece should strengthen their traditionally friendly ties. He pledged that China is willing to deepen the cooperation in every aspect, especially the cooperation and exchange on the provincial and regional levels. On her part, Bakoyannis stressed that Wu's successful visit in Greece will facilitate the development of Greek-Sino comprehensivestrategic partnership. He adds that Greece and China are able to upgrade the bilateral relations in the fields of economy and trade,tourism and regional cooperation to a new high. No New Progress on Six-Party Talks: Hill
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill has left Beijing for Seoul without major progress on resuming six-party nuclear talks. Hill Said he and Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wu Dawei had reaffirmed interests for the both sides in the negotiations and also discussed where the talks need to go. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said the talks between Wu and Hill lasted about four hours and the two sides exchanged views on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. However, Hill stressed that the United States remains very much committed to the six-party talks mechanism. The first phase of the fifth round of talks was held in Beijing Last November but has been stalled since then China Ready to Enhance Energy Cooperation with Other Countries
Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan says China would like to work with other countries to safeguard world energy security and stability. The vice premier made the remarks in a three-day seminar themed "Energy Security: China and the world". Zen Peiyan says China will stress energy efficiency and cut energy consumption, to lower the per unit GDP energy consumption by about 20 percent in 2010 from the level of 2005. Hailing the seminar, former Australian Prime Minister Robert Hawke, one of the attendees, says he hopes this mutually-beneficial energy cooperation will move ahead. The seminar was co-sponsored by China Institute for International Strategic Studies and Michael Eric Bosman Hotung Foundation. 12th China-ASEAN Senior Officials Consultations to Open
The 12th ASEAN-China Senior Officials Consultations will kick off next Monday in Cambodia. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei is to attend the two-day session along with his counterparts from 10 ASEAN member countries and the Secretary-General of the organization. The annual consultations, which are hosted in turn by China and ASEAN countries, has been an important negotiation mechanism between the two sides to exchange views, coordinate stances and strengthen cooperation over regional and international affairs as well as bilateral relations. In addition, China is to hold the ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit later this October to mark the 15th anniversary of establishing the talks.
