To Blog or Not?

"A website which hosts a celebrity blog is entitled to any money which arises from this blog.  It involves a great deal of personnel and money to provide a blog with technical support. The celebrities currently enjoy this service for free, and benefit from the resulting ability to communicate more conveniently with their audience."

Maybe China's celebrities don't hold quite the same opinion. Here's Xu Jinglei's laconic response.

"I will definitely talk with Sina about this."

Jingle: So which way round is it, are the celebrities using the websites to gain greater fame, or are the websites exploiting the celebrities to gain more money?  And legally, who should take home the resulting advertising revenue?  Stay tuned to today's frontline as we continue to discuss China's celebrity bloggers.

Welcome back.  According to the original oral agreement between sina.com and Xu Jinglei, Sina provides Xu Jinglei's blog for free, while the actress writes and posts regular articles, also free of charge. There is no written contract which identifies ownership of the blog. Indeed, it seems that neither side thought too much about money at the beginning, preferring rather to anticipate the indirect, mutual benefits of the blog.  Only now that money has reared its ugly head, things are getting a bit more complicated.  Ascertaining the owner of the blog will also decide which party enjoys the fruits of advertising sales, making it an absolutely crucial question.  However, before we talk more about sina and Xu Jinglei, let's first follow our reporter  Shen Ting as he again takes a look at the original subject of the dispute, the weblog, or blog.
