Internet Spam and Digital Security

Broadcasting Time: 2006-05-15

It's not a problem we would have dealt with 20-years ago.  But today, we log onto the internet, open our email inbox, only to see it's all packed with advertisements, unwanted newsletters, and even pornographic material. Where are they coming from, and how is your email being passed on?  On top of that, just how dangerous are these emails, and what is being done to ensure that your information is safe and protected.  Ni hao, and welcome to People In the Know, China's only daily English-language political current affairs program, online at www.crienglish.com here on China Radio International.  In this edition of our program, we'll talk about junk mail and the ever-growing concern about viruses and the safety of our online information.  We will speak with an analyst with China's industry regulator, who's helping to complete China's first anti-spam initiative. We'll also talk to an IT professor based in London on what's being done to slam the door on viruses, and what steps are being taken to ensure your personal online information is safe.  That comes your way next, here on People In the Know.

This is People In the Know.  First, to talk about junk mail, and the situation here in China, and steps the government has taken -- particularly a recent regulation on combating the ever growing problem of spam -- we're joined by Dr. Fu Jingguang, policy analyst with China's Ministry of Information Industry.

And after we take a short break, we'll head to England to talk to an industry observer there.

Ni hao, this is People In the Know, online at www.crienglish.com here on China Radio International.  I'm Paul James in Beijing.  In this edition of our program, we're talking about the internet, particularly junk mail and other security concerns when it comes to the information superhighway. To learn more about what's happening around the rest of the world, we're joined by Dr Gus Hosein, with the Information Systems Department of the London School of Economics.

And that brings us to the end of this edition of People In the Know, online at www.crienglish.com here on China Radio International.  If you have questions or comments for us, send us an email at crieng@crifm.com.  For executive director Lin Lin, and producer Chen Xi, this is Paul James in Beijing, have a nice day and Ming Tian Jian, we'll talk to you tomorrow.
