[Clear] The song you're hearing is called Clear, from mainland singer/songwriter Xu Wei's latest album "On the Road". Composed by Xu Wei, Clear was originally sung by Lao Lang. And, thanks to its touching melody and lyrics as well as Lao Lang's delicate vocal performance, the song became a big hit as soon as the former campus singer's self-titled album hit the stores couple of years ago. Now, with the release of Xu Wei's own version, listeners have a chance to discover qualities that come solely from the writer himself.
Released earlier this year, "On the Road" is the famed veteran's fifth album. And it is rather special now that it contains ten of Xu Wei's songs that were previously covered by other singers. To some extent, it's more like a gift album, which, the singer admits, has been released as much to satisfy his fans' curiosity as to put a fitting cap on a decade's work. There is lots of good stuff on this album. Some of the tracks were real hits for other artists, like "Rainbow", which Xu Wei wrote for female singer Ye Pei in 2002; "Purity" covered by Jessica Jiang in 2003, and the song "You", released by Faye Wong in 1998. [You] Though Xu Wei's voice in no way compares with Faye's ethereal sound, as the song's creator, he gives the song a rather bizarre flavor with a wonderful musical re-arrangement. Of course, if you are already familiar with Faye Wong's version, it may take a little while for you to adapt to this one. But it's a good song, anyway.
