Crazy for Marriage

Broadcasting Time: 2006-04-17

Couples have been saying their "I do's" in record numbers in 2006. The Chinese believe the Year of the Dog will bring good luck to anyone getting married. That's because it's a good omen that Spring begins and ends the year.

That luck spills into 2007. Babies born in the Year of the Pig will have good fortune according to the Chinese tradition. Young couples who want to be part of this luck are driving the wedding industry to boom.

It is expected that in Beijing alone there will be 130,000 new couples to hold wedding ceremonies this year, much higher that the previous years, which caused the shortage in supply of wedding ceremony resources like hotels, restaurants, masters, and wedding ceremony companies.

What's more, the relevant prices for all these services have increased accordingly, which gave more pressure for many new couples to get married.

Reporter Shen Ting follows one couple's highs and lows as they try to become one of the thousands taking advantage of this year's good omen.
