The reservoir of the three gorges is expected to reach its anticipated water level of 135 meters as early as Tuesday night, five days earlier than expected, because of rainfall in the area.

An official from the water conservancy project says the water storage has been going well since the sluice gates were closed eight days ago.

The 135-meter water level is essential for the first navigation through the permanent shiplock, another part of the huge project.
