Graduate Student Given Allowances
    2008-06-27 16:07:56     CRIENGLISH.com

Recently, civil administration department has agreed to give allowances to a graduate student who is from a lowest income family. The majority believes that the graduate student should be independent instead of relying on government. This matter has sparked a hot discussion.

Let's follow the media to take a closer look.

An article from Guangzhou Daily pointed out that, it is not the graduate student's fault to ask for the allowance. But there're problems in the education system of China. Should universities' enhance graduate students' research ability or practical ability? Meanwhile, enrollment expansion of graduate students is another reason that decreases the students' quality because there are not enough professors to teach them.

The Beijing News raised two opinions that people who enjoyed higher education from the lowest income families can get the government's allowance. Identity discrimination should be forbidden. On the other hand, the graduate student relying on the government's allowance will have negative effects on the society. He can take part-time job or apply for scholarship to make a living.

Hebei Qingnian News agreed the civil administration department should support the graduate student. People with higher educational backgrounds don't mean they have a high income. And it goes on to mention more attention should be paid to those poorer students.
