Time Adjustment of Checking out
    2008-06-26 18:52:08     CRIENGLISH.com

The China Consumers' Association has said hotels that make guests check out at noon violate consumer rights. The Beijing Consumers Association called on hotels to extend the deadline by two hours. However, the China Tourism and Hotel Association said it would be difficult to implement a new 2pm check out rule. So, should the official check out time be noon or 2pm? ¨C this question has sparked much debate.

Let's take a look at what the media has to say.

The Beijing News did not buy hotels' excuses for rejecting the new regulation. Hotel staff has enough time to clean rooms and clear accounts if guests check out at 2pm. It is more important to respect customers' rights than obey international rules which say guests should check out by noon. Such conventional rules will also have negative effects on the long-term development of the service industry.

Beijing Evening News quoted Sina.com as saying that many people supported the 2pm check out time, which is a people-friendly move. The author suggested the Consumer Association do more to negotiate with the hotel industry so that the change can be effected.

The Guangzhou Daily said the new check out time should be enforced by law, adding that international rules were not people friendly. The legislative department should ensure hotels follow market principles of fairness and justice. Consequently, consumers' rights are protected.
