In Yuncheng, the first leg of relay in Shanxi,Olympic handball bronze medalist Zhang Weihong led off on the 10-kilometer route as the first of 104 torchbears.

She then passed on the torch to Zheng Quandian, a psychologist who helped people rebuild confidence in the quake-hit regions.

"We are relaying the torch for peace, unity, and friendship. It also embodies people's confidence and resolution in building our nation stronger."

Located in a traditionally agricultural region, Yuncheng is characterized by flat lands, fertile soil and a warm climate.
