The Olympic torch relay has concluded in Xining, the final leg in northwest China's Qinghai province.

Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Wu Tianyi kicked off the 8.8-kilometer route as the first torchbearer in the city.

Known as "good doctor on the horseback", Wu has devoted himself in the research on plateau diseases for 40 years.

"I will bring the Olympic spirit into the scientific research of high-altitude medicine, and improve the health of people on the plateau, so that they build homes even better."

The Olympic torch relay will be held in Yuncheng and Pingyao in North China's Shanxi Province on Wednesday.
