Hello, and welcome to another edition of China Beat. This is Zhong Qiu.The artist featured on today's show is A-Bao or Paul, a talented singer songwriter who has just released his album The Love Story of Paul. Featuring love ballads, A-Bao made this album more like a love diary recording his previous romance that lasted for nearly seven years. In today's show, A-Bao will share with us his love songs as well as his love stories.
Graduated from Beijing Contemporary Music Institute, A-Bao first impressed the mando-pop scene with his debut EP, Music Lovers, which was released in 2006. Two years later, he added more love ballads to this EP and released this album which depicts a series of the singer-songwriter's love stories.
"My love ballads are based on the love stories that happened around me. Most of them are the real stories of my own. So this album is more like my personal love diary."กก
A-Bao's love diary starts off with this song, "I Still Remember", in which A-Bao looks back to the moment when he first fell in love with his girl friend. With a blend of traditional Chinese flavor and western R&B style, this song will take you to southwestern China's Yun Nan province.
"I wrote this song after my tour around Yun Nan. During this trip, I met a girl who was so pure and simple. She reminded me the feeling when I first fell in love with my girlfriend. I was impressed by the rustic local conditions and customs there. I borrowed the Ba Wu, a traditional tube instrument of Yunnan to arrange the background music, and make tunes from the local dialects and folk songs into this track."
The song we just heard is I Still Remember by A Bao. With an easy R&B style and heart-lightening melody, the singer presents the track in a quiet mood. While in the next song Impulsion Is Devil, he blared up in rock beat. With self-mocking lyrics, A-Bao expressed the regret of his impulsion on love.
"Sometimes, I was inclined to act in rush without careful thinking, especially when it comes to love. I loved my girlfriend; however, I ended up this love under impulsion. I felt regretful. It's natural for a young guy to haste on his decision, but I believe, just as the name of the song, impulsion is devil, some day we have to pay for it. "กกกก
A-Bao finally gave up the long-drawn romance with his girl friend. He then wrote this song, Weep For Love, which expresses his sad mood and painful feeling.
"We have been in love with each other for nearly seven years. I wept alone after we separated. Some one says, as a man, you shouldn't shed tears for love. But I believe, to weep for love is a happy experience. It proves you have once sincerely pursued a love."
A-Bao has suffered from his loss of love for a long time. The happy memories with his girlfriend have always come back to his mind. On the first Valentine's Day after their break-up, A-Bao wrote this touching ballad, Red Rose and Chocolate.
"Previously, we spent every Valentine's Days together, and never thought we would separate from each other. Seeing other couples immersed in happiness, exchanging red roses and chocolates, I felt extremely sad and lonely. Then it came up with this song. " (Song 4 Red Rose and Chocolate)
A-Bao cherished this section of romance in his heart. Three years later, he encountered his ex-girlfriend by chance. He realized that although a long time has past, they still can't forget each other.
"We've never thought we could meet again. Although we were smiling, we could feel that in our hearts, we still love each other. So I wrote this song, I Know You Still Love Me."
(Song 5 I Know You Still Love Me)
A-Bao made this album as a collection of this romantic love stories. He knew that he couldn't dwell on this romance and should write other types of music. So he recorded this song, Final Track, to make a full-stop with this love diary.
"I wrote this song to wrap up this album as well as my previous romance. I won't create another album on the same love theme any more. I have to move forward and experience different things. "
(Song6 Final Track)
